SCUBITE (Microsite Assignment)

We(my group and I) were given an assignment to make a microsite. In order to make a microsite, creating an event is compulsory. We considered this assignment a great opportunity to enhance our cooperation and communication skills whilst overcoming the challenges that came along with it. The combination of our ideas, sourced from different influences and points of view, ultimately combined to create something we as a group did not expect, something unique. Evenly divided tasks and great communication helped us complete this assignment with ease. Much to my appreciation, our group members were very disciplined in completing the tasks given to the best of their ability, with punctuality. Each group member was self-motivated, this being the core of our group's continuous improvement and advancement. Collectively, we would like to extend our gratitude to Taylor's for helping us understand more about event planning, management, criteria and also for enhancing our creativity and ability to think outside the box with relentless support and encouragement. Without this assignment, we would be unaware of the very foundations of microsites, in addition to the co-relating contents such as mobile apps, widgets and gadgets, in addition to colour matching which suits the topic, which kept us on track.

We produced appropriate supporting collateral items, further improving the experience and value of our event. A new software, SketchUp, was introduced to us to enable a life-like, three dimensional sketch, resulting in an advanced display of what our event will look like. SketchUp also taught us how to link the project with Photoshop, providing even greater enhancement to our project. In addition, we managed to improve our skills and methods in logo design when faced with this assignment. For our design proposal, we improved on design layout, including the good and bad, do's and don'ts of design layouts. For the proposal, type fonts are key to cater for people from all age groups, in addition to creating a friendly and suitable appearance in attracting the public and various groups of society. As designers, technical strategies such as flyers, posters and mobile apps are crucial to our projects.

In this assignment, we successfully improved in this aspect from experiencing new methods and various possibilities when facing this segment of the project. We took into account many different references including advice and tips from websites created by professionals, giving us a broader scope to what we mould this assignment into.

Malaysia is very well known for its cultural diversity, making it a haven for food lovers from all over the world. In recent times, ‘bizarre’ eating experiences such as ‘dining in the dark’ have started to make an impact in Malaysia. However, isn’t it simple enough to eat in a room with the lights turned off? So we coined an idea where people can dine in an environment where this has never been done before which is eating underwater.

Before creating the event, 3 of us(Me, Kelvin, Calvin) discussed deeply and we've come out with the title scubite. The idea actually came from Kelvin's favourite hobby which is scuba diving and Calvin's favourite thing in life which is eating. Therefore, our ideas developed days after days.

Our project goals is to break the world record is the first purpose. We need more than 500 people to break the last record. There will be 5 tables deep inside the water. Every participant will have a chance to sit at a table with at least 1 public figure(s). In addition, this project aims to raise funds for the less fortunate.

The target audience is people from all walks of life in Malaysia, locals or foreigners. 120 chosen Public Figures. Not to forget the tourists from the west and north because they would love to attend this kind of event. There is ni age limit for this event. The language used in this event will surely be English because English is the world’s language.

Theres plenty of technical strategies we used for this event and one of them is to create awareness by releasing promotional videos and posters, initially ads will be kept subliminal at first to increase anticipation, then will reveal the true agenda. We will attempt to make all the microsites using friendly and less complicated interfaces, depending on what kind of gadget you use.The main picture will be news related to the event, in which public figures will be participating in, which is the next promotional event we will do, including a donation counter to keep track and inform attendees of the collections.

Collateral Items

We did diving suit for this event because, this is an  underwater dining event so logically diving suit is needed in this event.People would love to buy these kind of merchandise as it is very cool to own one.

Glass and plates are one of the important collateral items in this event because food and drinks will be served by using these glass and plates.

For collateral items, T-shirt is one of the important merchandise for an event. Therefore we decided to make t-shirt for this event

Flippers are important for this kind of event as flippers are related to underwater diving Obviously it suits the concept of this event which is underwater dining event.
Flippers can be used for other things such as scuba diving and snorkeling so you cant regret for having it as you can use it  in the future.

We did diving mask for this event because, this event is an underwater dining event so logically diving mask is needed in this event too. Surely this kind of merchandise will surely attract people to buy.

This is and underwater dining event.therefore, by having towels for our collateral items  will be effective for our underwater dining event.

Technical strategies
Posters are very useful to promote our event as they can surely make people realize that there will be an exciting upcoming event.Furthermore, posters will tell every important information about this event. Therefore it is compulsory to have at least a poster for an event.Without posters, your event will be not noticed by anyone.

Banners are also a good method to increase the anticipation and awareness of the event. Without banners, the event will hardly get the targeted amount of attendence during the event

Flyers is another method to promote an event other than posters. Flyers will be distrbuted to public for them to understand more about the event.

Having a facebook page for this event will automaticaly increase the anticipation of the event. It is good for promoting a event.

Mobile application makes easier for the people to get information just by viewing it using their smartphones. This is one of the easiest way to increase the anticipation of the event.

Post submission, we received plenty constructive criticism from our lecturer which we will indeed keep in mind to keep getting better and better at what we do. This assignment was an important challenge to us as designers, improving us in virtually every way, at the same time teaching us new abilities and tools we can use to make our work beyond imagination. Thank you for this assignment.

Night Of Euphoria (event poster assignment)

Rave festivals are one of the most famous festival now days in most countries. Malaysia has a large amount of ravers and they will attend every single rave events that will be held in Malaysia. Therefore, this gave an idea for me to make one festival poster (rave poster) that will be held at Kuala Lumpur City Centre as thousands of people will attend this event surely. I had come up with 3 different ideas which were both festival posters.

The current situation of these events are There are plenty of existing success of any existing efforts in the industry for the area that I’ll be working in such is FMFA (Feature Music Festival Asia) , ASOT( A State Of Trance) which both of them usually will be held May every year. ‘Thirst’ will be held every year between November and December. ‘We Love Asia’ will be held surprisingly every year. For example, last year (2013) ‘We Love Asia’ was held twice in the 2 month period.

There was also a failure this year which is ‘Live In Colour’ due to some serious reasons. The Malaysian government banned every rave festival that will be held in Malaysia for a mean time because of the death of the 6 people during ASOT (A State Of Trance 2014) due to the usage of drugs become uncontrollable and leads to drugs overdose.

I have come up with 3 different ideas which are both festival posters.
1) Dance festival (common)
2) Rave(electronic dance music)  festival (common)
3) Underwater Rave/Dance event (rare)

underwater rave/ dance event , got rejected because there is no reason/purpose behind it.

After sketching some ideas, i decided to make a rave festival poster which to promote hardwell(one of the world's famous DJ in the world). Mr.mike(lecturer) , agreed with my idea and i can start planning my layouts after that. After an hour of looking and inspiring event posters everywhere, i finally started creating a background for my poster.

sketch

Final sketch

My ideas of the poster:
1)KLCC background with effects
2)colourful light effects
3)audience(ravers)
4)attractive main person(hardwell)

The target audience for the event will be The people who’s coming to the event will surely be the ‘party people’ and die hard fan of the particular DJ(Disc Jockey). Not to forget the tourists from the west and north because they would love to attend this kind of festival. The age limit for this event will obviously be 18 years old and above. The language used in this event will surely be English because English is the world’s language.

The project goals for the event is to make friends and have fun , at the same time releases stress, and boost your confidence of dancing,

I 'played' with photoshop a lot during the process, trying a lot of effects and blending. Finally i produced a nice and suitable background for my concept.

background

I tried playing with colours, effects, and alot of thing by creating this background.
It took a long time creating this background because there were alot of fail attempts by creating it such as, the colours are not suitable, some pictures doesn't fit well with each other and many more.

So i added the DJ and the title. when i showed Mr.Mike, he said change the guy and use your friends as the DJ. So i decided to finish up the poster first, then i change the DJ.

90% complete

Print attempt

99.9% complete

I printed out this poster but it came out being pixelated. It took me 20 minutes to figure out what is wrong with the printing or my design. Then i figured out it was actually the picture of my friend(DJ)and so I decided to take a new picture of my other friend.

100% completed

The concept that I used to complete the poster was by using electro effects as dominance in the poster to suite the rave festival theme. Other than that it blended well with the neon light festival as well. The font that I have used was a suitable match for the theme of the festival because it looks funky and cool.

By using the concept that I have used as stated in creative strategy above, they really help me by promoting the poster as people now days love these kinds of effect in a particular rave festival poster. The concept really works on this type of poster and before I start creating this poster, I have researched and observed many festival posters and the majority of the feedbacks are good. I found a great amount of inspirations before I started creating this poster and it did help a lot during the process of finishing this poster successfully. By stating the DJ name on the poster dominantly on the poster, people will be attracted to it because they will want to know who is going to spin for the night. By using Kuala Lumpur City Centre as my background,  this will effectively tell people that this event will surely be held around the area. By holding the event at Kuala Lumpur City Centre, it becomes easier for people to attend because it is right in the middle of town.
